Full or Empty?

I think a previous owner of my car gutted the cats. I there a way to tell without having to unbolt (break things) them and look inside?

Icant speak for the twin precats, but I know my car got somewhat raspy after I gutted the main cat.

If the main cat is gutted your car will be quite a bit louder than stock

It also has muffler elems so it is already louder than stock. I was just wondering if the cats had been 'altered' and in need of replacing

I would think your exhaust would have a different smell. I know my cats are gutted and the exhaust has a harsher smell then cars with cats in place.

I did, they sound hollow. Should they have a solid sound?

If they sound hollow, most likely they are. If there is stuff in there, it will sound like a thud. If there is nothing it will sound tinny (not a word, but that is the best I can do right now).

The smell thing is true. My car was okay until I took the main cat off. When it is idling, it stinks.
