Default HELP Bilstein question

Does anyone know how much to tighten the top nut on Bilstein shocks for the rear (late C4 application)?

The service manual says 26Nm. Well that's fine except the nut is one of those bushing nuts (aircraft type) and you have to put an allen wrench in the top of the shock end to keep the whole thing from turning. The instructions are really poor that came with it and mostly in forgein languages. The nut is a 17mm size.

I'm in the middle of installation and need some help here.

Thanks

I tried to pay close attention to how tight they were when I removed mine. I simply tried to duplicate it when replacing them. Have had no problems with my install.

thanks... except I'm replacing KYB's which use two nuts so I didn't have a Bilstein to reference from. I just tightened it down until the large bushing started to compress. I think there was about 7 treads showing. Seemed tight enough. Hope so LOL.

I just tightened mine down until it seemed tight enough. I couldn't find any torque specs. Feels ok and no problems.

I compressed mine until the bushing's diameter was slightly smaller than the washers/cups, then tightened the double nut.

To Convert To Multiply By
Nm ftlbs 0.738

26Nm x 0.738 = 19.188 ftlbs
