I purchased a well used 1987 coupe this past spring and have suffered from high temperatures around the gas & brake pedals. Last week, I removed the cover under the dash in that area to get at some wiring. While laying on my back, looking up into the underside of the dash, I noticed two duct ends (about 1 1/4 inch diameter plastic tubing).
They look as if they should connect to something but there is nothing there. One tube comes from the right side of the car, passing behind the radio and stops in mid air. Another comes from the left, above the steering collum and has a 90 degree elbow which ends pointing straight down. I noticed a square hole in the cover which I had removed but nothing goes too or through it.
Could you post pictures? There are two heater outlets on the side of the heater/a/c plenum, which for your '88, should let a small amount of a/c air to the flow to the floor when the a/c is on. There is a center stack to the defroster and center vents which is actually 2 pieces and sealed with foam. There are ducts to the side vents which are a couple of pieces and also sealed with foam. These ducts also have tubing running to the side window defrosters if you have that option. It would be easier to see what you have with pictures.
I now have a picture but I can't seem to figure out the process to load it here. It seems I've seen the procedure on the forum somewhere, but I can't find it now.
