Default Engine Build Paused...how to store?

The shortblock was assembled and due to $$$ and the nature of car things. I decided to leave her for when I get back...next summer? Should I go ahead and assemble all the gaskets and everything and button her pretty much up to the heads now?

Or should I just wrap it up as tight as I can and seal it like is.

Will the cam lube and oils deteriorate?

Thanks in Advance!
Chris

oil cyl. walls and seal(tape) off... that way you can see and inspect
before you finish it... if all is OK finish, pre-lube and fire

Yup. You can also go and buy a roll of cellophane shrink wrap and mummify it until you're ready to finish. Just make sure it's completely covered with several layers of the stuff. It's great for keeping contaminants out.

Ok thanks guys, I have everything I need except pushrods. (And possibly a waterpump...but so the possibility list rolls on)
I am not sure since my heads have been milled if I can use the stock size, but I am really wanting to finish. This motor in the car now is almost hitting 150k, and if it is anything like how the car seems, it has been beat on hard all its life.

Thanks again, maybe luck will change and a post about my 383 will come up before next summer....

smear the thing wil some cheap motor oil or WD-40. Squirt some oil around each cylinder wall and turn the engine over by hand to coat the walls. Then what I do is toss some oil soaked rags in the lifter valley and wrap it with plastic.

Products such as STP oil treatment are great for this too. That stuff will never run off. Treated so and well wrapped in plastic, it could be possible that archaeologists could run across your engine some day and it'd still be ready to go!
