Cat converter use all 9 lives? PLUS a new PROBLEM!
OK I’m not a expert here but I don’t think your are supposed to have chunks of black coal looking stuff fall out of your catalectic converter are you? My vette problem #2 or maybe problem #1 also was running rough with a rattle in the cat. Previousely I had a loud squeal when it warmed up at low idle. I took the back muffler eliminators off and chunks of square coal looking stuff came falling out. To me this is not normal and I think it was blocking my exhaust hence the rough idle. Any opinions?

I had an ugly knocking noise coming from the cat... turned out a baseball sized chunk of the filter was bouncing around in there... anyway this could cause a number of problems... a rough idle, knock, power loss, hard starts... maybe squealing as well

Well here is the problem now. It was making a squeal you may have read the post. Some said it was the converter others said it was the motor. So I took it to the tranny shop to have it checked out. Ran strong all the way there and no problems. They call the next day and say what ever it is it is not in the tranny. No problem I go pick it up and hear this rattle like a loose muffler bracket. Not thinking much about it (maybe it loosened when they lifted it) I drove it home 10min away. Befor I get home I get rough idle to a point where it is going to die smells of gas fumes real bad. I pull it in the garage it dies. Today I run to Mid America buy a new cat and put it on. NOW it will not stay running smells of strong gas. Oh by the way on the old cat I found fresh scrap marks as if someone bottomed out in my car. But they denie it. Any help here? Funfest is in a couple weeks and its going to suck not going. HELP!
