Just got home with my new rotors and calipers for my 89. A quick read through the manual for torque values and I noticed under brake hose replacement they recommend using aluminum washers.
So, as you might have guessed, the dealer gave me copper. I must admit, I just asked for washers and thought nothing of the copper ones I received because I've always used them in the past.
What kind of interactive is there going to be between the copper washers and the aluminum caliper? Anybody else make sure to use aluminum washers?
I just installed new calipers on my car also - I used the copper washers too....
Do I need to change them?
Well, I don't know. There is going to be some galvanic action between the two metals and unfortunately, its the aluminum caliper thats going to suffer the worst of it. I just found this

My factory ones were also copper. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it if I were you. I've used and reused copper washers on all kinds of metals with banjo fittings, plugs, etc. to seal all types of fluids. Never, ever had a problem.
You guys sure those were the original factory parts, just finished mine up and the washers were aluminum.
I did put the copper ones on, the weathers great and I want to drive the car. I'll order new ones from the dealer and change them out next year - it will be a good excuse to flush the system

You're right, of course. Since I bought mine 8 years old, I certainly can't be SURE they were the originals. I was ASSUMING and you know how THAT goes! Still though, I would not worry in the least. Enjoy your drive and yes, keep that system flushed every year or two at the most and you'll make this worn out old mechanic very happy!

I've no reason to suspect the brake lines were ever disconnected. When I bought the car at 46k, all the brakes were original except for pads and maybe fluid. The bleeder screws were almost seized up in the caliper too.
I would just enjoy the car and not worry Hope that helps.
I think they all come with copper from G.M.
I wouldn't worry about it!!
I worked in a brake/exhaust shop for about 5 years and every caliper I ever took off had copper washers. From aluminum ones to steel. The washers on my vette were copper and they are the original hoses and calipers. Don't worry about it.
try this #....... but I can't make any promises. It's been a while since I played with my F-body... even though it has the same C4 PBR calipers. The washers come in a 10 pack.
so GM is Inconsistant with respect to aluminum calipers..........
That's seems to be how this one is ending up, and it won't be the last time there's little inconsistencies with the manuals and some cars having or not having the parts described in the docs.
I think everyones right, shouldn't be an issue either way. Out of curiosity though, I will visit the parts counter to see what they come up with..
