On my 1992 I spun the rear wheels a little after washing the car and the "Service ASR" light came on. I put it in my garage after that and did not start it again for 2 days. When I next started to drive it, it turned over fine, but would not start. I let it sit for a day. The next day it started fine. I drove it about 40 miles and returned it to my garage. One day later and it won't start again. While cranking "SYS" is displayed on the LCD. I checked the codes and got a "C41" (Loss of ECM Data Communications) on the CCM (Module 1), an "ERR" on Module 4 (ECM), and a "H72" (Serial Data Link Fault) on the ASR ECBM (Module 9). Does anyone know how to diagnose my problem and suggest what I can do? Thanks. Also, does anyone know of a good Vette mechanic in the No. Virginia area?

Reason: Add a request for a Vette mechanic and change title.
I had a very similar problem with my '92 several years ago. Intermitently the car would not start, and SYS would flash occasionally while driving. I got a codes 41, 72, and also another one (54, if I remember correctly--something to do with the fuel pump). My problem turned out to be a faulty ECM (the unit with all the wires directly above the battery). I replaced the ECM with a rebuilt one and I haven't had any problems since.
If I remember correctly, the rebuilt ECM was about $100 (exchange). Try Mid America at madvet.com and The Last Detail at tld-corvette.com .
I didn't have to replace any ABS or ASR parts. These systems are pretty reliable and just about all the problems with ABS and ASR will be computer related. Just as a side note, check your brake fluid level. As the pads wear the level in the reservoir drops, and that can occasionally set off the ABS and ASR lights.

When the serial link is down, the Fuel Enable Data Stream (FEDS) will disable the car as security measure. If the serial link fails during car operation, the car will drive as normal with the security and sys light flashing. As soon as you stop, the engine will crank but fuel will not be enabled. The service manual does not indicate an ASR light, but in my case and all the cases I have heard of, the ASR light also came on.
On my 93 vette, the problem was the ECM which was intermittent and temperature sensitive. Ran the car until the lights came on and drove it home. I placed an zip lock bag full ice on the ECM and the lights went out. Heated the ECM with the key on, engine off and the lights came on. One other simple test is the "thump" test. Tap the ECM (NOT with a hammer!) and see if the lights come on or go off. If these do not help, then you need a service manual to track down whether the serial wires are open or shorted, whether there is a bad ground, or least likely of all, the CCM has failed.
