Broke !!!
Today I went to Beaver Springs for the finals of the points series.
Dad and I loaded up early and headed off to the track. The racing started at a 10:00am and the temp was nice and cool. DA around 1750 on the TAG.
My first time shot I told dad it would probably run a 10.5x if I could stick the launch.
Backed into the water box, where ~12-14 yr old kid was directing me where the water was at. I mostly watch the track officials and don't pay too much attention to other around me when going through the pre-launch stages. They usually know what is going on and let you know what to do. Like when to start your burnout, after that I go into my own sequence of events. Usually pretty systematic. Well today I back into the water, spin them slightly to get them all wet, pull forward watching the offical to get on the edge of the water. He tells me to stop, and flags me to start my burnout. So I light them up, watch in my mirror for the real white smoke to appear, then look back to the tach and burn them out into the dry, only there is a car sitting right at the lights! WTF!! I look at the kid and point at the car shaking my head. The older offical comes running over, by then the other cars have launched and I motioned I wanted to redo my burnout, but the other offical was telling me to stage NOW! Sorta pissed me off, cause I knew by the time we launched my tires would be much cooler. On all three dry hops getting up to the lights, it just smoked the tires.
On the launch the car hooked, then blew the tires off or a bit then grabbed again. I stayed in it the whole time and made the pass. The car felt like it was really cookin.
Came and got the slip. 130 MPH was at the bottom!!! Nother goal met for the year.
The runs ET was a mere 10.74@130.03 MPH, when calculating the intervals it blew away my previous bests by ~.02 in each interval!
The 60' was however only a 1.579! Worse one YTD.
The sun came out and the temps went up, all the rest of my runs were 101.XX in the 1/8 mile and very high 129s the remainder of the day. The ETs were all in the very low 10.6X range. Most 62 and 63s.
I went two rounds before being taken down by a 10.23 car, who cut a .004 light. I tried to chase him out, but he got on the brakes before the finish and came in right under his dial.
On the first elimination run, I dialed a 10.62 and caught the guy easily and got on the brakes pretty hard before the stripe and it ran 129.54MPH, looking at the slip, had I run it out - I not only would have broke out, but it might have hit 131MPH. I nailed the breaks pretty hard- and road them across the stripe, and that usually scrubs the MPH pretty quickly, so I was pretty surprised to see the 129.54MPH on that run.
The DA at the end of the day was near 2500, and the car held low 60s runs so I was very pleased with the way it ran. My remaining 60 foot times were all 1.48X. Getting much better, and the thing is deadly consistant.
In better weather I see 10.4s being had pretty easily. I have a few more tweaks I need to make on it. One being I have about a 1/8-1/4 inch lip where my intake and heads meet. The manifold did not match these heads very good when I put it together and I have been meaning to pull it off, mill the mainfold and get a better match....I know its hurting me ET wise, and we talked about doing it this week. Just hate to touch it, since it keeps picking up more each time out. I think the motor is just starting to break itself in. With the weather this summer and work, I have virtually no miles on the motor compared to the 406, which had at least 2000 on it at this point last year.
At a 1/4 mile at a time, it take a little while to put some miles on it.

SEEYAA was a first alternate with his orange beauty, but it would have been cool to see 5 C4's in the Pro 8.
Have you seen this yet?

I gotta ask though with as fast your going have you upgraded your brakes? I barely tip a 100 in the quarter and my brakes are completely faded and gone by the end of the track. Back to back runs are a complete no no for me.

I experienced the same thing you are with my pads I got a few years ago, and recently changed out after having problems staging.
I per the recommondations of a few people got the ECB greenstuff pads, just on the front and they are like night and day difference. Where I used to take the last turnoff road, praying as I made the turn
I am not barely touching the brakes and am taking two turnoff sooner. I would not believe it either, but these brakes work AWESOME. They are designed to work cold, which is what I needed at the line, and they perform very well on the topend too. Get yourself a set. I got mine from the tirerack for about 70-80 dollars, I have been thinking about getting them for the back too, but they work great as is so I probably won't spend the cash.
As I said the other night, come over and run with me at Beaver Springs or Numidia and I will get it running in the teens or 20s every run. At 120+ MPH. You need to get to a track where you can make about 12 passes without concerns of dialing in and running passes on the brakes. ie. Test and Tune day.
I would get that ESC module up to snuff, that is one less concern or suspicion.
Are you shifting your tranny manually or letting it shift on its own?

My question is.....did you run that 130 pass with the SD system still hooked up or did you convert back to MAF? Or am I really off base and that is what you were doing on another altogether different car?
If you did run that time on the SD setup.....what did you do to get your 2 tenths that you wanted so bad? You do that 870 computer?
Oh yeh and one more little thing....what is DA? you refer to it a lot at the track....something to do with humidity or weather?
Thanks man
Jeff (Iam the guy who put the post up bout you possibly building me a setup with SuperRam when my 131,000 motor finally goes.)

Anyways, both systems ran in the high 10.7s range at 128. This was in about 3000 DA weather. High Humidity and poor traction prepped track. My 60' times were 1.52 and 1.53s with one 1.49, which made the car run a mid 10.7s pass.
When I say I switched systems, I made several passes on the MAF recording all the intervals, then I ran the SD on several passes. Both systems ran nearly identical. Within hundredths of a second. I also tried to run the SD system, with the MAF tube in place and this gave the best 60' times but topend MPH was identical.
My conclusion is that our motors are not getting choked off by the use of the MAF system. Both systems work well on these setups. Corky still has a better ET at 10.54sec from earlier in the year on the MAF, 870 ECM.
I stuck with the SD system primarily cause I want to replace the plenum on our intakes with a 4 valve throttle body (looks like a carb) and see what it will run with that in place. With the MAF it would have been tricky since you still need the MAF sensor and Tube. Whereas with the SD I can just bolt it on, fix up my throttle cable/TV cable and let it FLY.
How did I gain the .2sec or more like .15 secs? Through some minor tweaking of items like suspension and obviously the weather plays a large role. But moreso I contribute it to the better 60' times I am starting to get with the car. If I am left to my own devices, I can pretty consistantly get 1.48 60' times now. Friday I was able to squeek out a 1.46, which is still off of Corky's 60 times which are 1.44-1.46 pretty regularly.
I think the 130 MPH pass this weekend would have been a mid 10.5s run no problem had it hooked like the other 4 did. The other 4 were all 1.48X, which is not too bad. Still learning what is the best launch RPM, and more will come.
Corky started off with his 406 at 11.6s I believe and by the time he was done it was running 10.9s, so we are still tweaking these setups. Its all the little stuff now that makes the changes. Like my intake being off from the heads. NOT GOOD, and I can't believe that I have not addressed it yet. But it all takes time, which lately is pretty scarce.
Well get it
