Default "Check Gauges" - What for?

I have a "check gauges" light illuminate on my guage cluster and I can't seem to figure out what the problem is. I have a Tech 1 and a service manual but I can't find a test or troubleshooting procedure in either. All of the gauges appear to be working. The digital LCD display shows accurate temps and volts. Have plenty of fuel. All of the analog gauges seem to work - only one I'm not sure of is the oil temp. It works, just not sure if it is reading accurately. But it isn't pegged to one side or the other. But I'm pretty sure there is only one oil temp sensor on the engine so both the digital and analog have to be getting the same information.

Any ideas on what to start looking for?

If it matters any, and it's not like I like to tell this story, but this showed up right after I spun my car on a curve at high speed and did a little off-roading. Didn't hit anything solid, but the car bounced around a little sliding off the road and through the grass.

Well I don't have a definite answer for you, but "Check Gauges" means just that.

Now that you have mentioned the spin thru the grass, I had my "Check Gauges" light come on after a long drive in the snow. My oil temp sensor must have got fudged up because it was reading close to 300 degrees and the "Check Gauges" light was on until it dropped to a normal temp. Only thing is, the car was still cold, so there was no way the temp was that high. After idling for a couple minutes, the temp rose and fell by 100-150 degrees every couple seconds. After about a week, everything was back to normal and I didn't touch or fix anything. So I'm guessing the oil temp sensor dried out or whatever.

The strange thing for me is I don't have any abnormally high or low temps showing up on gauges. The only one I'm not sure of is the oil temp because there are only two numbers on the guage and it's hard to tell what temp reading it's at in the middle. The needle is pointing above 100, and the digital says 175 ish for instance.
