Default power seat problem

The driver's power seat will move every postion except foward. I tried to take the switch apart yesterday, but didn't get very far. It looks like I'll have to replace it. But, I would like to just get the seat to move up. Does any one know which wires I can cross?

Are you getting ANYTHING? I mean, the seat gears are prone to mechanical failure. If the seat grinds, the rails are done.

The motor that runs the forward is the center motor. Run the wires back and see what happens.

Make sure the seat rails have not figured out a way to tear up the harness under the seat.

As a last ditch fix, you can remove the seats from the rails and swap the rails from side to side.

Sadly, there are no owner servicable parts inside the power seat rails gear box. We as consumers cannot buy the parts needed to make the seats work. I think that sucks. Big time.

The problem sounds like it's in the track not the switch.

If the seat moves back but not forward, there maybe some debris in the track. Pull the seat (only 4 bolts) and do the inspection.

As mentioned, you can swap tracks and/or seats till you get the track repaired.

The seat will move in every direction but forward. Sometimes, from continuous pressure on the switch, it may move. Until I can replace the switch, I'll try to trace the middle motor's wires and bypass the switch.

On my '88 at the switch it's the Red/Grn & Yel/Orn wires that control the left seat fore/aft motion. At the motor the colors are Red/Grn & Yel/Grn.

Apply +12Vdc to the Red/Grn while grounding the Rel/Orn and the seat will move forward; reverse the leads and it will move aft.

If the problem is in the switch, you might try some TV tuner cleaner.

Default Fried seat gears

I just killed the gears on one side last week when my 5 pt lap belts bound up the seat track. What are the options to fix it - get a rebuild? I was thinking about taking apart the gearbox and trying out Berg or McMaster-Carr or someone else who sells assorted gears. Anyone give it a try before?

Thanks

Last night, I tried the Contact cleaner/lubricant spray (from Radio Shack) on the switch to no avail. I then switched the power supply connections in the middle of the switch (orange positive and gray ground) Wholla, the seat moved silently forward by pushing the switch back

I got a quote from dino@corvettesalvage.com on a new switch. $65. Doesn't sound too bad. They also only want $40 for a infl. rest. sensor! Locally, they're $90 from the Delco supplier.
