Several weeks ago I posted a problem with my door locks . They were locking and unlocking for no apparent reason, to the point of running the battery down. I thought I had a bad door lock control module . After tearing apart the dash and both door panels, It turned out to be a bad door lock switch on the passenger side.
The spring that keeps the toggle centered, broke and part of the broken spring dropped down into the contact so that the switch was always made to engage the door lock. The overload protection then tripped like it is supposed to do so as to protect the door lock motor. As soon as the motor would cool down, it would reset and relock, over and over again .
The bad part was I had replaced the same switch 6 months ago, so I didn't suspect that it was the problem. The good part is that I am now very well versed on how the door lock system works.
I thought I would pass this along in case it might help someone with a similar problem.
Glad you figured it out, was the replaced switch you had the problem with an OEM or aftermarket part? Thanks for the heads up
The first switch that was replaced was aftermarket. So is the current one. I will keep an eye on it . If it breaks again I'll get an OEM. I've come to the conclusion that on of the first things I checkduring diagnostics now is if a new part has been installed recently. I've had too many instances of new parts failing prematurely and ruling them out just because they are new. That goes for OEM parts as well.
