Ok im installing a new cam and every1 i have talked to said i will need to get my computer tuned.
the cam has a 224/230 duration and .544 lift. i will be porting and polishing the heads also.
can i just have a custom chip burned for me? or do i need to send the computer off to have it done?
You might want to put your cars year in your profile too.
Yes, you will need custom tuning for that cam. No, mail order tuning doesnt really work(some might do good with your datalogs on one attempt- others will never get it right.), and no, an off the shelf "hypertech" chip wont help you out either. Read the whole sticky at the top of the scan and tune section, but it really only applies to OBD1 cars. Burn your own or step up to a "cu$tom" chip, but you will need to make it run and datalog it first.
i am located in jonesboro AR. its in ne arkansas- about 50 miles from memphis tn.
i dont want to ship it to anybody b/c i dont want to risk it not being done correctly.
i guess i am too picky
i see ur from memphis- did u do ur chip urself?
also- ur motor looks great. I added u to my aim list
I just bought a prom burner, but I'm not up on the actuall programming yet. A friend in Delaware that has tons of experiance is helping me out. With a 92 you don't have to send anything off. You'll have a small computer chip that plugs into a piggyback board like this. You might want to get in touch with Jesse ( ski_dwn_it@yahoo.com ), Here's his site www.azzatochips.com

You should consider MORE Performance in Charlotte, NC. They do fantastic work and contract the SD chip burining for the C4s to Jim Smith who is an ex GM calibration engineer. They have a chassis dyno facility onsite.

Ron.. Have you got your car back from them yet? Any track times? Last time I spoke to you at Dragway, I thought you were close to getting it back. Curious as you how it stacks up against Jims 383.

Jesse,
I got it back about 1.5 months ago and everything is fantastic. The FAST is really cool, and the car drives like a stocker. As far as I'm concerned, they did a fantastic job on it.
I've been out once and the best that I did was a 12.32 @ 114.5, but had such horrible wheelspin that I had to back off and get back into it for her to stick at all. This was on street tires with a 1.99 60ft time. The DA is unknown as I don't have a weatherstation, but it was a pretty humid mid 80s Ohio day. As far as comparing with Jim, I think he's a much better driver than I am after watching you guys at D42. Nonetheless, I am confident that I can break 11s with the street tires and probably be in Jim's area with slicks and some suspension mods.
At this point, I am totally satisfied as I'm still deciding if I want to go to the next level (cage, slicks etc...), or if I just want to have fun on the street with some occasional drag racing.
I would highly recommend MORE to anyone looking to do a serious engine build. The work that they did has been better than outstanding. I've already put 1500+ miles on the car since I got it back and everything's been 100% solid.
