Default Chip for my '89 six speed???

I want to buy a chip for my '89 six speed. First of all, i want to kill the CAGS shift lockout feature. This thing drives me nuts. Second, I want to lower the temperature that the fan kicks in. I get stuck in heavy traffic quite often, and I hate seeing the temperature get up to 225 plus before the temp kicks in. I'm thinking the fan should kick in at about 185-190 but I'm open to suggestions on this one. I'll change the thermostat if that is recommended. Last, but not least, I would love to pick up a few hp's in the process, but my car is stock, and it will be some time before I do any engine mod's since I just bought new shocks, and the new tires go on this Saturday.

So, what do you guys recommend? What chip manufacturer? Where can I get the best price? Can't wait to hear your suggestions. Thanks ahead of time.

Generally, a chip you buy isn't very effective when it comes to tuning. A thermostat, and a CAGS Bypass will do the other things you'd like it to, I believe.

At your level a chip is a waste of money to be honest. Get a new thermostat, fan switch, and CAGS bypass harness.

Honestly, you don't have to buy anything to bypass the cags system. Jack up your car, find the transmission, and the wires leading from it. Unplug them cover the ends of the wires with electrical tape or something similar and voila, problem solved

I bypassed CAGS with an CAGS bypass connector sold by either Ecklers or Mid America. No cutting any wire...just plug it in.

I agree that in terms of bang for the buck...a chip is not the way to go for a stock engine.

I'd start with...
