Trans Question
Hi all, My trans has just started acting up on me and i am hoping the worst is not ineviteble. When i attempt to take off from a dead stop with the shifter in OD i get a Loud Shuddering sound and the car doesn't want to move. All other gears are fine. When i approach OD speed and shift to OD, it seems to slip a little unless i feather the gas a little. I was told by someone this is converter shudder. My question is, If I do a trans service on the car; i.e. Filter and fluid flush, am i likely to correct this before it is too late? The car has 98,000 and i'm pretty sure trans is original. Just curious if anyone has had this or similar trouble and sucessfully combatted it....

Hey Jack, sorry to hear your having trouble. I've never heard of converter shudder before. Does the trans shift down ok? Is there a chance it's not coming out of overdrive? I would count the downshifts to see if you're going all the way down to first. How does it act when you shift it manually? I would most definitely do a fluid/filter change on it. Keep in mind that the 700R4 was never a real strong trans.
