ok here's the deal, I got a 96 collector here and got the dropping kit to drop it an inch. it says in the directions to get a leaf spring compressor tool from GM. Who out here has done this mod and what do I have to look forward to? do I really need this spring compressor? does this spring have this much tension on it that I can't get it out or in without the tool? thanks!!!!!!
I didn't use a tool, just used a floor jack to on the bottom of the a-arm, couple of pumps, undid the mouning bolts, slowly lowered the jack to release the pressure. It takes some time to do it, but a good do-it-your-selfer can do it.
Just make sure you use a block of wood between the a arm and the jack as the aluminum mars easily. Also, it a good time to replace lower ball joints if needed. I just took the A arms out and took them to Midas and they pressed out the old ones and pressed in the new ones.
