Default big block in C4

Can you guys direct me to the info I need. I am new to this forum and sure this has been discussed.

Or is it an impossible swap? (all aluminum 557 CI in 1988 vette)

I've heard it will fit with work. usually people complain about the weight but not if it's aluminum BB. Prob ways the same or less than a all iron SB. Hope it works. I also beleive you will need a cowl hood

Try the search feature above...I remember a while back someone stuffed a 502 in a C4...looked like it took a shoe horn to get it in- but he did a beautiful job on it....I had some pictures of it somewhere and I swear I got them from this forum...

They are heavy- and I believe he had to trim the front crossbar for the crank pully to fit...oh, and a complete custom set of headers to fit down the now much narrower frame rails...it was even using fuel injection like the LT1 has!

Check with TONYDEE64 on the forum. He has a supercharged BB in his C4.

Tony can definately help. He has some picks that show some of his frame mods as well. It can obviously be done, but at a great expense. What is your reasoning for the AL big block? Nosy bastard wants to know.. lol

I remember some guy posting here that he used big block C3 headers and they were almost a perfect fit. Don't know how accurate the source was.

There was a story in one of the corvette magazines about the swap, too, and someone posted the story.

My friend who used to post on here often had a 800 horsepower 480" solid roller/NOS plate bigblock in his C4....

Heres some pics off his website:

It was a simple conversion: took a weekend to do

-It bolted right in using factory motor mounts
-Cutout the cross bar across the front (takes 5 minutes)
-C3 corvette Hooker headers bolted right in
-had to remove a/c box
-didnt have to move rack/pinion, just got a belt pulley that sat flush with the balancer
-cowl hood
