Default Meziere Electric Water Pump

You don't have alot of choices with the LT1 waterpump. OEM, rebuilt OEM, or electric.

I'm running the Meziere HD electric water pump, and very satisfied with it's performance.

Thanks for the reply, STL94LT1. That's what I was afraid of. Did you do the install of the Meziere HD yourself? How tough a job is that?

Yes, I installed the Meziere. It really isn't that difficult. You reuse your stock water pump housing, the Meziere bolts to the front.

Default Go Mezzaire

Go the Mezzaire. It does a great job. While you are there..hook up a Delteq unit to your Opticrap and never have to worry about it again.

There is no pulley on the stock LT1 water pump, it is driven off the top timing gear. But, you are right, it does use horsepower.

An electric pump does take HP. Nothing is free. It takes less HP since it turns at a constant speed regardless of the engine speed. Since it turns at a constant speed, the impeller can be made to be most efficient at that speed. Dyno test have shown that it provides 8-12HP gain depending on the engine RPM. It runs at an equivalent 4500-4800RPM standard water pump output. If you do lots of 4500RPM driving, it would run short of capacity after awhile.

There is a tech tip on how to install it. You'll need to pull the pump housing completely to install it. Not difficult, just a bit awkward getting to a couple of the bolts. First time is about a 3-5 hour job.

Just be sure to use at least a 30AMP relay.
