Default OK....rearend experts???

As an update to my original post here http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=907010
I thought I might be having trans problems but now that I have had a bit of time to investigate I tend to think otherwise. I put the rear on jackstands and put the car in drive and reverse and the wheels seem to spin fine with the car running with no rearend grinding. However when I put the car in drive and attempt to go forward it seems to drag the rear of the car after about 5 feet. The whole rear of the car seems to slide sideways and the right rear tire left marks up the driveway as it was spinning all the way up the driveway while the back left was barely moving at all I'm taking from this that maybe I have a rear problem and not a tranny issue? Maybe the firmer shifts just accelerated the wear on the rearend? Is there anything else I can do to troubleshoot my rearend to make sure that it is messed up and its not a transmission issue. I can't think of anything that would cause the tranny to make the rear wheels spin like that under off-idle throttle......

I don't think we're getting the whole story. The right rear is SPINNING at light throttle? Is the left driving? Or is it dragging? Put it back up on the jack stands, and with the trans in neutral, rotate each wheel, by hand, one at a time and observe the other. Do the same again, in park. What happens?

RACE ON!!!

I think these limited slip differential rear ends are the same as the ones on a Z28 I had and there are side gears that turn each side axles shaft yolks that have a clutch pack that allow for positraction with some slip when turning corners when one wheel is making more revolutions than the other. The clutch packs have a bearing and three clutch plates and the side gear that is turned by the pinion gear. The right side clutch pack may have gone south on you or the side gear may have broken.
Sucks, but you'll just have to get inside to see.

Yeah, CFI-EFI is onto something here, if the wheels are locked up in park it tells you that at least the tranny is holding in park and that your ring and pinion gears in rear arent broken. But if one wheel turns and the othe doesnt it's likely a side gear clutchpack prob.

When i put it on jackstands in neutral and turned one wheel by hand the other one turned the same direction and the one i was turning

I didnt have anyone home with me to check to see what the back right was doing when i was moving so i guess the back right wheel could have been dragging not spinning, either way i know it made tread marks all the way up the driveway

Well I can see where a fried posi would cause one wheel to spin in a burn out but would it cause one wheel to lag so that it was being dragged along on pavement, only in forward but ok in reverse.

And yet both spin together when it's jacked up.

Could this point to a broken suspension member on the left side, or possibly in the left half-shaft area??

Since the left rear is dragging on the pavement I was thinking something had broken causing the left rear brake to come on and prevent free rotation???
