Default C5 Brake Conversion Parts List

Ok! I give up! I've been trying, for several days now, to "SEARCH" the forum for information on the use of C5 front brakes and rotors on my C4. I know I've seen threads on here, but I can't find them to save my life. My computer literacy is showing I guess.

I am very interested in doing this mod to my 87. I know several suppliers sale the package, but I was wondering If it can be done, piecemeal, for much less money?

I would like to get the "LIST" that I've heard of on the forum which, I hope, might also include sources of brackets and hoses.

Another question troubling me is weather or not the front wheel 'backset' changes to that of a C5 or whatever?? I believe it's about 38mm for my vette, about 54mm for later C4's etc. I realise course, would have to buy new wheels to clear the calipers and selecting the backset is, obviously, important.

Any help would be grately appreciated!

Here's the info on the C4 to C5 brake upgrade:

Oh yea, I have heard Ed Salinas is the man to ask for adapter plates.

You dont need to worry about different wheels. Just get wheels with the proper offset, 38mm.

and I also urge some caution!

Spacers/adapters are themselves expensive and IMHO place excess stress on the wheel lugs. If at all possible, financially and aesthetically, and this is just my opinion, I would prefer to see you get the rigth wheels without spacers

Again, just MHO

Hey there Strike3,

If you want, you can e-mail me at edsalinas@***.net, I'll give you all the G.M. part numbers & best places for $$ to get 'em. I use to have some threads with all the info on them but I think when the forum switched to the new servers we lost some older posts, oh well...

As for wheels, I agree with my good friend Jack DR. You'd be better off getting some 5 spoke (ZR1) or even ZO6 wheels. The older sawblade 17's will work but you'll need at least 1/2" min wheel spacer to clear the bigger C5 caliper.

Good luck,
Eddie
