Default 4+3 Questions?

I have a 85.. with the 4+3. About 2 months ago, I noticed when downshifting in 2nd gear. it would jump out of gear. It does not jump out of gear when accel... in 2nd only when dowshifting. I think this is the syncro. Right? I know a rebuild is coming soon.. but this something that is really bothering me. with in the last 2 weeks.. I am getting alot of noise from the tranny. when the car is idleing in neutral I get a loud knocking noise. when I push the clutch in the knocking slowes down and goes away.. I guess is the throwout bearing.. Right?
Well here is my real question. I live in Miami. Anyone know anyone in the South Florida area that is good with the 4+3 trannys.. I mean this is not a popular tanny so I figured it would be better to ask if anyone knows anyone that has exprince with this tranny.. What is a going price to get this tranny rebuilt? Opinions are welcome'd.

I have an 87 with that transmission. If it pops out of gear generally it is a syncro or a worn gear. As to the noise usually a throwout bearing makes a squealing noise when you push in the clutch. It could be a worn pilot bearing allowing the input shaft to wobble. How many miles on it? It may just be worn out. I only have 30 k on mine so it is not a good judge.

Actually when you push in the clutch that's when your turning or using the throw out bearing, normally it's not being used, the engine is turning the trans. also when you push in the clutch you stop turning the transmission gears which stops the sound your hearing.....popping out of secount and the noise means I'm sorry to say you need a rebuild, the good part is the best doug nash 4+3 rebuilders in the country are in Fl....gear venders......look them up on the enternet.

Slipping out of gear,... worn synchro. I'd put $ on it. But you can expect the need for mroe parts as well. To fix this, all you need a 1/2 decent trans shop. The prob's you are talking about are in the T10 gear box. A very common gear box.

The knocking noise is internal to the trans. I think I have a bad main bearing up front, which makes a metallic noise at idle, and esp while engaging.

Mine slips out of 3rd occasionally during decel from high rpms. I've heard 2nd gear synchro is the first to go.

Try gearzone.........I know there's one in FL. I've bought from them two times most recently this summer.......very helpful people , can't remember exactly where ....tampa?...I had mine rebuilt by AMCO two years ago and had to buy the rebuild kit from these people,,AMCO had never seen a doug nash 4+3 before...after the rebuild the transmission had a bearing that was walking on the shaft and taking out the oil seal between the overdrive and 4-speed ....its been in the shop two summers in a row.....gearzone if thats who it is knew exactly what the problem was after i told them the oil seal was leaking between the overdrive and 4-speed....had AMCO call them and now its fixed... I had to pay AMCO 1/2 of the labor two times plus the original repair bill ($1200.00)....they only have a 90 day warrenty.....I was lucky to get any discount at all.......use them if you can you'll get a better rebuild or order a rebuild though the mail and have someone swap the trans..........it would have saved me $700.00

I think they sold off the overdrive stuff to SKSpeed & Brian, but I'm not sure about the 4-speed part. They may still do the work on that half.

I couldn't recommend S and K Speed. I got one of their rebuilt OD units and with just over 20K miles it is on it's way out again. I don't beat this car. Brian also screwed me on the core charge.
