I'm in the process of digging my water pump out. I have just removed the two bolts from the air pump. The top hose, that does a 180 then heads down the front of the engine...is this thing supposed to go anywhere? My rubber hose attaches to a larger metal pipe, but seems to be afixed to a support structure, but the outlet isnt attached to anything. Is this right? Is this just like some sort of breather tube or does it mate up to anything?
has there ever been any work done on the exhaust... on my '85 l98, i believe the metal pipe your talking about is the one that goes to the catalytic converter... if the cat is gutted (or eliminated) there is no need for that pipe (or the air pump at all)...
Reading through the service manual, it seems like that is a sort of vacuum hose for the air pump. I did end up removing it to get the water pump out. That seems to be what it is.
