Ok, so i am getting the work done on my car next week for sure. Heads ported & polished, cam, 1.6 rr, springs, lifters, electric waterpump, double roller timing gear.
so my question is what do i need to make sure he does-
How will i Know if he adjusted the rockers?
Whate else should i make sure he remembers to do ?
the guy has worked on several lt1s but I dont think he has done alot of performance work.
Price a lot of times indicates quality, but you have to consider the place
you are located in,big cities usually mean big bucks. If your area is not
heavily populated then labor rates can be lower.Just a comparison,
Chicago is $75 for specialty shops,$100 dealer,in my area you can get
work done for $35 to $55,$65 dealer. It also depends on if he wrenches
full time,or he's moonlighting.Befroe I went into business I used to
charge $25 to 30 at home. You could also ask for references,if he's any
good then he shouldn't mind giving you some names and numbers.
doc's toy is right... location is everything in pricing... Where I live dealers are still the most expensive (around 60/hour)... but if any independent shop charges over 50/hour, he'll price himself outta business... There is one guy i trust, and have trusted for years, his price is around 40/hour
well the gy lives about 20 miles from Jonesboro AR. in a town called lake city. he was refered to me by a guy that does head work- the guy that does head work is supposly the best around.
The mechanic has his own shop in this town and is an older guy. He does all of the police work in the town. (lt1 capri) - the town has like 2000 people at the most in it. but most of the time price= quality. but there are always mechanics who are very very good- just have been discovered or dont wanna be
