Default 87 A/C compressor question

Hi All,

My 87 A/C compressor is going to bite the dust soon. It is now, and I want to remain, a Freon 12 system as I have enough F 12 for a couple of recharges. I was wondering if anyone knows of a newer A/C compressor that will "bolt in". I checked ebay and there are a lot of compressors (Nippon Denso) that fit 88 to ?? and almost no older style GM compressors that are new. I heard somewhere that the newer style would fit on the 87 with the proper adapter and they are compatable with Freon 12. I searched the forum and I can't find any help there. Does anyone out there have any suggestion ?

Thanks and have a nice day.

Don

I would figure the Nippon will fit, but you will need the 88 bracket, as it bolts down differently. I would not waste $ on a reman unit. A good 8 out of 10 of those units leak. (Say bye bye to your freon supply.)

Anything other than the R4 will require a different compressor hose and brackets. If you go with the Denso, the hose is about 80 bucks. The brackets can be obtained through Contemporary Corvette, but make sure you get the support piece that runs to the header. The Sanden compressor is probably the best out there, but you will need another bracket and probably a custom hose.
