Default Changing Halfshaft U-Joints

1984 Corvette - If I take the halfshafts out to change u joints is there any marking needed? I mean do I need to mark left or right, or inside/outside on each shaft or are they completely universal and it doesn't matter?

Nope, put em' in however you'd like to. If you use u-joints with zerk fittings try to install them opposite each other in the halfshaft.

If you haven't bought the u-joints yet, try to get the spicer parts, Napa sells them, the zerks are located on the end caps and not in the valleys... Better design by far..........

Where can you get the spicer U Joint parts listed in the other thread:
Driveshaft - 5-786X
Halfhaft at wheel 5-800X
Halfshaft at differential SPL302X

Does NAPA carry these also?

Not to add a question, there are only two different u-joints on our vehicle.

One for the drive shaft(X2) and one for the half shafts(X4).

Racers at the track (SCCA) always mark them so they go back exacly the same way they were on the car.

Why?

There's always a certain amount of twist in the shafts from running them hard, not that you can see it. This weakens them somewhat, so if they're flipped they'll fail.
