bad grinding noise

bad grinding noise
Not sure if any one can help on this one but I'll give it a shot.
I was driving my 85 down the road when all of a sudded the pavement ended and the construction began. I went as slow as I could through the gravel but 2 minutes later the grinding noise started.
I dont know if the 2 are related but I figure it is a good start. It seems the noise is coming from the front of the engine. I dont know if a rock got caught up somewhere or what.
Any one ever havve this happen or have an idea where to start troubleshooting

start checking the belt! a rock could have been thrown up there and is grinding on a pulley or something.
Also, a rock could have been pinned into the brakes. Does it grind all the time? Or only when moving?
