Does anyone have any experience with ASR code 62? I was driving my '92 LT1 today when the car died in traffic. I got it started after a minute and it ran fine all the way home, however, the "Service ASR" light remained on.
I retrieved the CCM, ECM, and ASR codes, and the only one I got was an ASR code 62, which is a "tach pulses fault." According to the factory service manual, there's either a short to ground or an open circuit in CKT 121 (a white wire going into the EBCM). Whether it's a short or an open circuit, it's probably intermittent since the car seems to run fine now. Does anyone know anything about this circuit and where/what I should be looking for?
The opti and coil are relatively new, so they SHOULD be ok. I'll check the wiring going to the coil. I'll also check the wiring to the ASR computer (EBCM)... is this in the compartment behind the driver's seat?
Just found this in the factory service manual: "A short to ground in CKT 121 with the LT1 engine may cause driveability problems. If the ground is on the ignition system side of the tach filter, there may be a no-start or extremely poor driveability condition."
This sounds like what I experienced for a short time, so my best guess is an intermittent short to ground in the wire that runs between the coil and the tach filter.
So my question is, where is the tach filter and what does it look like?
