I don't want to believe it, but somehow I think my tranny's shot....
I did the tranny fluid change a few months ago. I followed advice on doing the at-home-flush method and everything went well. In fact, when I did the tranny oil change, the oil was burnt and way pass the "nice pink" clolor stage. I fear that I have left it too long after buying my vette to change the tranny fluid.
It seems like after the fluid change everything seems to be okay, until vehicle was laid up waiting for the plug/wire/IAC/TB change. I cleaned the TB, put in a new IAC, new gaskets, and everything seems okay for 2 weeks. Then I rode my bike in to work for 2 weeks while vette's in the garage for that time. This week, I take the vette out, I find I'm slipping 2nd gear. Just before taking the car out I also did a rear-diff fluid change to Redline 75W-140 + 2x GM slip diff additive.
what's happened to my tranny???? is it shot??? when I take it easy on the throttle, letting it change slowly to 2nd gear and then 3rd, it's okay from then on. But try and drive aggressively thru 1st and 2nd and 3rd, it changes to 2nd but I find the revs just keep going up and it feels like the transmission's not engaging.
The first thing to do is check the tranny fluid level; perhaps when it was refilled it wasn't checked after fluid got cycled throught the A4 by driving it. Or there may be a fluid leak.
I re-edited original content to specify what model year vette I have.
Also re-checked the fluid level, and it is about half an inch higher than the max on the dip stick. I'll try an siphon some off just to eliminate this as a probability.
I wonder if redline in the diff is causing this also....I have some Mobil1 gear oil sitting in the garage, so I can certainly change the redline oil out.
The diff lube has NOTHING to do with it. Was '94 a transition year? Do you have the 4L60 or the 4L60E transmission? It DOES sound like a TV cable adjustment problem, or with either trans, it just may have come to IT'S time.
The burnt fluid was a pretty good indicator that your tranny got too hot at some point. I would wipe the dipstick with a clean white sheet of paper and look for particles deposited in the paper. You should look for shiny flakes and clutch particles. Ideally, this should have been completed prior too the fluid change. However, if your tranny is slipping for real, it should be making metal, clutch particles and would be pretty easy to spot. Also, smell the fluid for a burnt smell. It does sound like your clutches are slipping and are on the early stages of tranny failure. If you do have an adjustment problem (I hope) you might get lucky who knows? .
Its a 94 (4L60E) so he doesn't have a TV cable to adjust.
Sounds like your clutches are going. Smell the fluid and you'll know. Also you mentioned changing/cleaning the TB. Make sure your TPS is still set correctly. If not, you're tranny might not be getting enough line pressure at WOT.

HHmmmm...I didn't know about the TPS and it's potential impact on transmission line pressure. I did remove the TPS from the TB before cleaning down the TB.
thanks for the tip. It's certainly another thing to checkout.
