Ok, I have just purchased my own '89 Vette!!! It seems to work properly, but for sure, from now, I will need your assistance. I am from Spain, so my english is not perfect... sorry!
My doubt this time is about the sit belts. Both are correctly blocked when I push the "CINCH" button, but only from the bottom! I mean, the upper part of the belt, that covers the chest, does not block any hit!
I hope not, but if I hit someday my car, I do not want to loose my head, so I ask you... it is normal? Maybe there is something that I do not know...
As far as I know that is normal. The cinch will lock in the lap (bottom) belt only. The upper belt is locked when the force of stopping exceeds a certain limit. You can try it by getting up to a good speed and locking the brakes. In some cars, and I don't know if the Vette does this, you can pull on the belt with a lot of force and it may lock.

All european cars are like this. the force needed to lock the belt is minimal. Sometimes (in a car for the european market) if you take the belt (to put it in the block mechanism -the one near the center lid-) with a little more force than required you can lock the belt.
With my vette I'm not able to lock the belt even simulating an hard pull with my hand. All USA cars are like this? the lock of the belt comes in ONLY for forces generates by very hard decelerations (like when you hit something)?
