I have a 91 that now is showing no display in the LCD for odometer, gas, speedo.. nothing. The first time it hung up with the speedo showing one speed and would not change but the odo, gas and other things worked. After turning the car off it began working ok. A few months later it did the same thing but again began working after i jacked the car up and checked the speed sensor wire on the tranny (automatic). The car set for a while changed the waterpump and only some of the speedo digits were showing. It also was real slow to respond to changes from things like the eng/metric switch very delayed. Jacked it up to check the speed sensor wire but the pipes were too hot to check it so I put it back on the ground let it idle for a bit more and then the speedo was blank. Sounds like a loose/dirty connection or a bad component from heat.
So far I have disconnected the battery and let reset..
Un plugged the ecm cleaned the connections checked the prom was tight
Checked the speed sensor wire and it is fine
Pulled the fuse for the lcd and it does turn the light off when I unplug it.
Looked for loose wiring under the drivers knee bolster.
I think next I should check the CCM and Dash Cluster for loose connections. All of the other functions of the ccm seem to work like turning off the entry lights and door chimes.
Any ideas? Any pointers or help would be greatly appreciated!
