Default IDEA (good or bad)

I was wondering if anybody ever thought about using a t-5 from a 305tpi camaro in a vette. The t-5's are pretty strong they have the same guts as the t-5"s in the 5.0's.5.o guys have ran these trannys down into the 10 sec range if you are nice to them. You could use a cable operated clutch just like 5.0,that way there is no hydraulics to hook up or buy it would be cheap.I was just wondering about fitment. You could have the driveshaft cut down to make it fit if needed also.

Please tell me what you think, because I am probably going to try it.(whats the worse that can happen it wont work).

Also no cags

I believe there was a guy who put a t56 in a vette (c4) the main issues were the c-beam mount point was on the wrong side and he had to fabricate a new mount...plus it came up thru the tunnel in a little different location so he had to cut and weld the shift rod to make it fit...he bought a custom bellhousing to adapt it (I believe it came out of an LS1 camaro (the tranny) with enough money...I am sure anything can be done!

I put a ZF6 in my 84 when I had it...and they make a CAGS delete I believe...may be more trouble then its worth..

mine is an auto right now.

What I was getting at is you can get the bellhousing from a factory t-5 camaro(3rd gen)and it will bolt right up to a 350.I understand about the cross member.I would get that from a camaro also,or fabricate my own.The reason I bring this up is it is pretty expensive to get all the pieces to convert an auto to a standard because the tranny is so expensive.T-5's go for around 100-500 depending on how new it is and how beefed up it is.An adjustable clutch cable and quadrant is only 120. Clutches are cheap and the pedal could be had out of a camaro or a stang.

I am just trying to think of ways people could do a swap cheaper and easier than normal.

Guys this was just an idea. The only advantage I saw was ease of installation.Plus the t-5's will hold a crapload of power also.I have one in our notch and that car will hang the hoops 18inches.

You proly missed byte me's post that the "C" beam is going to be the problem. The "C" beam bolts to the tail shaft housing and to the rear end to mount the rear of the tranny and control the torque of the rear end. There is no cross member at the rear of the tranny. Crawl under your car and check this out.

What he said- I hear what you are saying...but you are going to be in for a crap load of work trying to get the C-Beam to work...chances are that the T5 is shorter and even your auto beam will not be long enough to reach it...that thing is responsible for maintaining the rigidness of the drivetrain- it takes all of the load torque wise and keeps the car from twisting up like a beer can under heavy use...

If you are looking for a direct bolt in (so to speak) a ZF6 is going to be the way to go...I did mine for $2500 and when finished...I was 100% satisfied with it! I say that it would take every beating I gave it and came back for more...

If I were a betting man, I gamble it would be very close in price to adapt the T5 as it would to put in a ZF...how much is your time worth?

Guys I really appreciate the info I was just curios I honestly did not know of the problems it would cause. How hard is it to swap a zf6 speed into my car and what all is needed for the swap?

I wasn't trying to sound like byte me was wrong because like I said I did not know.So I hope I wasn't making you mad by coming back and saying the same thing

I will be having a mechanic do it for me since I don't have all the proper support stuff and spring tensioners. Which ones are the "dog bones"? and what bushings will need to be changed and whose do you recommend?
