How much trouble is it to replace the 700R4 with the 4+3 manual? Do I need a new console? Do the holes in the floor match? Is the manual a good tranny? Will I see better performance? I have an 85 coupe.

Actually, alot of forum members have changed the 700 auto to manual. The auto will be more consistent in the 1/4, some guys just like the manual. Seems there have been alot of posts about the 4+3. Do a search and I'm sure you'll get the answers. Personally, I like my auto.

I'll sell you my 4+3 cheap - I'm looking to change to a ZZ4 motor with the 6 speed - so I will have a spare 4+3 laying around!

Wouldn't you rather install a ZF 6 speed? I thought the Doug Nash 4+3 tranny's weren't very well thought of. If you want to go really wild why don't you do what I did, a Turbo400 manual valve body with a Gear Vendors overdrive? I love it and recommend it highly. Pics on my web site if you're interested.

FYI, I dismantled an '86 4+3 car and the tunnel is different. You may need a donor car for the tunnel section. The linkage bolts to it as does the shifter. I have a brake and clutch pedal assembly, clutch master cylinder, and the section of fiberglass from the firewall (to use as a template). I also have the wiring harnes and relays (I think you need this for the overdrive). I also have the firewall pad that is cut out where the master cylinder and rod are mounted. I saved all of this for a manual swap.
