That's funny.

The only way it can be broken by driving is if you have 800hp and you drag raced it every mile.

It is magnesium, but gee, it's a rather low torque area... once the entire driveline is bolted together, the bell housing doesn't do all that much more, beyond holding things. Large bolts, thick flanges... it takes some effort to break it.

describe broken, too. Can you post or send a picture?

Sounds a little fishy did they say were it is broken. the good thing is the bell housing is not that exspensive at least not like the tranny etc. Good Luck.

The way you describe it, it sounds like just one "ear" or "lug" is broken off. That would NEVER happen by driving as the load is even accross all the bolts. You couldnt break the bellhousing around just one bolt, unless you left that bolt in, maybe loosened while you tried to remove the engine or trans independantly of the other.

A few years ago, a friend of mine did break his bellhousing on a T-350. Let me tell you- he broke it good. Complete separation of the engine and trans, yet all the trans bolts were still attached to the engine. It was like an 18" crack.

Thats only if we are talking about a manual trans. He really didnt specify, but obviously on an auto the bellhousing is the case.

Is it the top bolt?

The one that is notoriously hard to get to...

Hmmm, sounds like somebody learned what shop sucks in their town!
