Default what is this sensor?

I broke a sensor I need to know what its called so i can order it asap.
Its on a 1996 lt1 auto
on the passenger side in between the spark plugs 6 and 8
I hit it and broke the sensor...not the relay... while putting in headers.
I took it out and coolant surged out of the hole...haha... i was quick to plug it back up.
but now my water temp wont take and neither will me oil.....which im guessing wont allow my fans to turn on! over heating!!!
please let me know asap.

thanks

It is just the water temp sending unit. It will be the cheaper of the two at the parts store. There is also one on the front of the waterpump.

The senor you are referring to is a engine temp sensor. This sensor is for the warning light in the dash. On my 1992 it is not connected to the computer. If its the same as my 1992 the car will run fine and not throw any codes.

You say the water temp wont take. Are you sure?

yes im positive that it wont take because
the hand on the gauge didnt move after a 15 min ride.
but it wont effect the fans or overheating?
I need to check the acctual digital reading it might be working.
thanks

My book calls it a engine temp sensor (gauge overheat). Not connected to the computer.

The sender you broke is for the analog gauge on the dash.

The sender in the front of the water pump is used by the PCM for various functions including fan control and it also feeds the digital display.
