What is a good free software to use to just scan and read data off ecm and can i make my own cable for the laptop with serial port or do you need to buy one? If anyone knows a way to make one it would be appreciated. Thanks
Try searching the web for WinALDL, the software is free and there is a simple cable schematic on the site too. The sites owner is a member here too, although I havent seen hime post very often.
Sorry, you didnt state what year you have. I dont know if the software will work, and the cable probably wont. The single transistor cable is for 160 baud, yours is 8192 baud (faster). The site owners name is Jonas Bylund (sp?) and I think his username here is JoBy. Try searching the web for tunerpro, the RT version(registration fee requested) has a scan tool built in, and it works with the 730/727 ECM. There are two transistor cable and max 232 cable schematics on the web if you search. Sorry I dont have links. You can also try Datamaster(free for demo, then costs $ after so many datalogs), I know its in the TTSpowersystems.com web site.
BTW- most people have some sort of problem when they first build or buy a cable, getting it to connect. Dont be discouraged. Its usually something simple, or even a software problem on your computer that causes the glitch. Either way it usually works out, just keep posting and trying.
(Hit the "Software Page" tab on the left side and then download the program labeled "ECM852.zip".)
I've used it for several years on my 90. You do have to build or buy an interface to use between the ALDL connector and your computer. I use the AKM unit.
