Default L-83 Performance

I'm sure this has been brought up before but is there any kits available or advice for pumping up an L-83 in 84 Vettes. I'd like to keep the Cross Fire system but would like to have more power out of it.
thank you

Hello,

There are a few things one can do:

X-Ram intake manifold will net about 25HP and keep the look of the crossfire using the two TBI's and the air lid

Cold air lid mod with K&N filter

Heads- get yourself a set of L98 Aluminum off a later model vette...then port match them to the intake

1.6 roller rockers

Exhaust, headers 1 5\8" long tubes and dual exhaust

When I had my 84- I did a few things to it like Dual exhaust (no headers) bought the kit from mid america ($249) it gave that L83 quite a bit more grunt...plus it sounded great! I would guess a good 20HP gain!

You may want to visit the crossfire injection vault- they know just about everything there is to know about the 84's!

Oh yeah- put in an 85 or newer fuel pump....Major change in the cars attitude!

For starters, make sure it is running properly before you start to make changes. IF your '84 pump is working properly and putting out to spec, an '85 pump will provide NO improvement. If you NEED a pump, the '85 makes a more powerful (pump power, not engine power) replacement. If your existing pump is delivering full pressure through out your rpm range, save your money. The very first improvement, *I* would recommend is to port your intake manifold. Besides a lot of tuning and little things, it is the ONLY thing I have done to my 160,000 mile engine, and it runs as well as those of people that have spent thousands, more than I have. Have fun. The Crossfire CAN be a challenge. Check my avatar.

RACE ON!!!
