I know that you can get the entire LT4 kit, heads, built, with cam and intake for 2200 or so from Skoggins-Dicky Performance.

It's the way I want to go... seems like a nice way to add a quick 50hp.

The LT4, by the way, was rated at 330, but the actual output is closer to 350~360.

I checked that install, looks like the heads are built for that price, each. Not a bad deal, really. But you will need the intake... it has a different angle to match to the heads better, if I remember rightly.

Ideally yes. The LT1 intake ports won't match up properly to LT4 heads. It will be even worse if your LT4 heads are ported -- the ports will be much smaller on your LT1 intake.

I mean Im looking at doing this from the cheapest way possible.
having someone other than who i buy it from... port it. so I can get that done cheaper.
if i get lt4 heads and the lt4 intake.
Do i have to port the intake to match?
Does porting require different sized valves????
thanks agian

ughh nevermind that last reply.

if i got the lt4 heads and ported them would it be possible to port the lt1 intake to match?

the other possibility.
if i got lt4 heads and lt4 intake would my EFI system driect fit into the intake manifold?.....this would be the easiest thing.

I have a bbk 52mm tb would that fit the new intake?
thanks so much

What's the point of buying new heads, and then porting them? If you want more flow, buy heads that flow more. You'll also end up with smaller port CCs for a given flow number, which equals better idle, more bottom, and mid-range, without giving up any top-end power. You won't have to buy a new intake either; I believe the LT-1 flows pretty good. So it should be a cheaper combo too.

I agree. You can make over 400HP with a cam, LT headers/catback and porting your stock heads. After that you'll need to address the trans and rear end, they're not long for the world behind 400HP. There's another thread right along those lines, figure $5K for the motor another $2K for labor and $1500 for shift kit, TC and D44. LT4 heads with porting will add $3K~$4K and 20HP at best.

It would take a VERY strong LT-4 to produce 350fwhp. All the claims I hear of that much power (and more) can probably be attributed to variations in chassis dynos, rather than underated engines.
My own LT-4, described as a "very strong example" by two different dyno shops, only puts out 306 - 311rwhp, depending on which dyno it is on, atmosphere, etc. This would equal about 330 or a little more...depending on what correction factor you choose to employ.
I'm with Curveit; why buy new heads only to have to rework them? Get the right heads to begin with....there are many good choices out there to choose from.

With a 15% loss correction factor, 305rwhp=359fwhp.

With a 7% loss correction factor, 305rwhp=330fwhp

Where did you get the 7% figure for drivetrain loss? I've always heard 15% for manual, 20& for auto.

I agree with Silver and Red CE.
With a 6 speed, it's universally accepted you will have a 15% driveline loss, meaning 305 rear wheel= 359 fwhp

exactly my contention.

So... as I said, the LT4 was woefully underrated. You see, the General didn't want the new Vette to come in with less power then the outgoing Vette. Can you say "Marketing Disaster"?

because AFR has a 10-12 week back order.
What are these choices? The way I see it you have 4

1 AFR (10-12 week wait)
2 Edelbrock ( Better off with GM)
3 Trick Flow (64cc chambers)
4 GMPP LT4 head

I would say AFR (they are what is going on my motor but AFR has a 10-12 week back order so GMPP LT4's are a great option.)

AFR comp ported heads $2,499.00

GMPP LT4 heads $1340 plus $999 for porting

Without going to a LT4 intake your only choice with AFR are the 180's. If you want to go ahead and go with the LT4 intake then you can get the 195's,210,s or 220,s. Not knowing your exact cam set up I would say either the 195's or 210's. The 195's will provide better lowend torque while the 210's may provide a little more up top (Above 6000 RPM) I choce the 195s for my combo 383, 10.7:1 and a CC 306 cam. Just remember to plan ahead 10-12 weeks at this time.

well when i do this i want to already have the LT4 hotcam and 1.6 rrs.

the headers although were for the 86-91 corvette..yet fit mine.
bbk 52 mm tb, under drive pullies, open air lid k an n..

either a set of 180 LT1 Comp ported or the 195's. I realy think you would be fine with a set of stage 3 stock LT1 heads with the combo you have.
