Due to a major brain fart I have forgotten where a vacuum line runs and for the life of me I can't find it. I have reseached my service manuals to no avail. Can someone help me out?
I have an '88 L98.
There is a junction box that is bolted to the rear bolt of the thermostat housing that has two vacuum hoses connected to it on the left (drivers side) and another hose connection on the right (passenger side). I can't figure out where the hose that connects to the right side of theat junction box goes.
I was planning on going for a run this weekend, but this has put a monkey wrench in the gears.
Right goes to the EGR switch, unless you're on the other switch, then it goes to the EGR.. Left goes to the throttle body. Bottom of the TEE goes to the Charcoal Cannister.
does that 'junction' have an electrical connector? if so that is the egr solenoid.
Theres no electrical connector, just a hose, and I'm betting it's the one going to the cannister. When I get out of work I can go home and track it down.
Thanks for your help. The only thing worse than losing a hose is having parts left over when you finish working on the thing.
Sounds like you're describing the "T" vacuum connector that plugs into the bottom of the TB.
In that case one small hard plastic vacuum hose runs across the front of the valve cover base, under the alternator to a hose on the inner left fender well.
BTW, when you have parts left over from an R&R job try my plan. Stash em in the compartemnt behind the seats...eventually, after enough R&R projects, you may have enough "spare parts" to build another Vette.
Well, I'm back to squar one.One side of the junction box goes to the egr valve, and the hose next to it goes to the cannister. On the other side of the juction box there is another inlet that has, for a lack of a better sescription, a clawlike clamp to keep whatever's in there, in there. That's the one I need to find out where the gremlins are hiding it.
Any help or direction?
That claw like clamp held a small square piece of foam (air breather filter) it no doubt has deteriorated over time and is gone. Mine is gone, fell apart when I touched it to try and clean it. Hope that helps. Ron B.
You are describing the EGR Solenoid. There is one vacuum line into the valve and one out to the EGR Valve. The other port is for air input.
When the ECM activates the EGR Valve the solenoid routes manifold vacuum to open the valve; when the ECM deactivates the EGR Valve the solenoid routes air to allow the valve to close.
