I got a quote just yesterday for heater core placement on my ‘95 coupe. It's 500 bucks! Apparently the dash has to be removed to gain access to the little bugger and that really racks up the labor portion of the repair.
I love this time of year...The heater core questions start popping up all over. I did mine last year, and if it cost $2000 that would still be worth it. I can't tell you exactly how many hours I spent over two weeks, on my back, passenger side, seat and carriage removed, with bolts sticking in my back removing all the crap needed to do this. I actually received quotes from $300 to $500 to do this. Its worth it. The part only costs about $70 i think.
I did mine about a month ago. It was a pain in the butt but it was doable. Just take you time and don't rush it. The dash pad, the passenger airbag, and most of the passenger interrior has to come out. Then all of the wiring was in the way. Mark them then unclip them to get them out of the way. I spent 3-4hrs taking it apart and getting the old heater core out and about the same to put it back together. It really was not as bad as I expected but it was not something I'd like to have to do often. For a shop to do it is ridiculously expensive but it does take a while.
