Default Strange Temp Reading

I have a 180 degree stat in my L98. I run regularly at 180 to 184 degrees even in stop and start traffic. On my way home from work yesterday the temp dropped all the way down to 168 and then right back up to 180. I was going 75 mph and had been driving for about 2 hours straight. What in the world was that all about? Outside temp was 75 degrees. I've never seen that before. Anyone?

Were you going down a steep, long grade? Going beteen here and Las Vegas, there's one very long & steep mountain pass were I've seen mine drop all the way from 200 to 170 by the time I hit the bottom. It's the only place I've seen this happen. My truck also drops about 10-15 degrees in the same place.

I was going down a long grade when it happened. It really threw me for a loop cause I have never seen that happen before. I guess I would have been less suprised if it had been cold outside instead of being in the 70's. Thanks man.
