Default New ETs to report....

Well just got back from the track. Damn what a day. Weather was good and cool, DA hovering around 1200 ft, pretty decent for Pittsburgh.

Got there and went over the car real quick, since family plans were sorta hectic this weekend and I didn't think I was going to be able to make it out this weekend, till the last minute.

Then I come to realize that my 3 year old boy who helped me install a switch this week, had removed my helmet and jacket from the car so he could sit in the car while I worked on it. So I had to get a helmet from the tower, which when the guy handed it to me, he said, " What ever you do, Don't wreck with that thing on your head." It looked like a helmet from Dumb and Dumber or equivalent But hey, it was going to get me racing

Upon going over the car the timing was off ~6*, I found that my distributer could be moved back and forth with some slight force about 8*! Thats not good and probably what cost me last time out in the elimination a shot at making it one more round into the finals, when the ET changed a good .02 out of the blue.

Dad and I worked on getting the distributer rebolted down and again timed. I had both my boys with me and they were busy making sort work of a gravel mound nearby by throwing the rocks at the old slicks piled there.

First round of time trials, car hooked real good and felt great through the entire run. Here is the slip.

R/T .020
60 1.447 (new Best)
330 4.297
1/8 6.672
mph 103.09 (new Best)
1000 8.729
1/4 10.464 (new Best!)
MPH 129.81

Holy beans! I about died, I expected a solid 10.5X in that weather, but a mid 10.4 was unexpected. Dad and the boys came back and we shared some high 5s That was one of my goals for the year, 10.4X.

OK, back out for time trial #2,

R/T .069
60 1.445 (Another new Best)
330 4.284
1/8 6.659
mph 102.93
1000 8.721
1/4 10.460 (Another New Best!)
MPH 129.37

Well that last best didn't last long, just the way I like it.

OK time to dial this thing in.

Dialed a 10.45

R/T -.009 (other guy was slower and went Red first so I ran it out the back door for a free time trial)
60 1.441 (Another new Best)
330 4.278
1/8 6.653
mph 102.92 (new Best)
1000 8.714
1/4 10.454 (Another New Best!)
MPH 129.32

Damn, I take the win cause of the other guys redlight, and run right on my dial to boot. Pick up some new bests in the process. Those are the sorta elimination runs you like I was very surprised to see the run right on the dial, cause I was afraid after seeing Jim 85vet and a few others racing ahead of my slow down about .03sec from there dials, but mine picked up.

Round #2

Stick with the 10.45 dial, figuring I won't go much quicker.

R/T .024
60 1.441
330 4.270
1/8 6.644
mph 103.17 (Another New Best)
1000 8.703
1/4 10.442 (Yet Another New Best!)
MPH 129.73

I couldn't figure out how the hell I lost coming back the return road. I was watching the other guy's car front which was sitting motionless in my passengers rear part of the window, so I KNEW I beat him across the line. I was thinking I guess I could have run under again, but again I saw the other guy running with us run a 10.43 on a 10.40 dial, so I figured for sure I would be dialed heavy. Sure enough when I got the slip it was the above, at 10.442 so I broke out. Damn, but YIPPI

Glad I was able to get out to the track and share a great day with my two sons, friends, and Dad. Big thanks to Dad for watching the two kidos while Dad raced.

THanks guys for the nice comments. Yeah its still running the D44. I have upgraded the internals to take a spool, which really makes the setup strong. Basically it removes the spiders etc that frequently break. Its also deadly positive, since both back wheels are coupled together.

On the street with the slicks its somewhat noticable, but with street tires its nearly transparent. The only thing you really notice is in parking lots with gravel or loose cinders you will hear the rocks getting ground in, rather than the tires just rolling across them.

We put a spool in Dads chevelle and its much more noticable. It squeels the tires around corners etc. Its must be the huge weight difference. But even his on the street for normal driving its not bad.

THere is always going to be a slight tradeoff, I am willing to hear the gravel once in a while, rather than holding my breath waiting for a spider to explode and take out the ring and pinion or the entire carrier itself.

I am extremely pleased with the way the car is running. Seems that every time I go out it get stronger and stronger. Some it obviously due to the weather getting better, but if some of you remember I started out at 10.8s.

Goes to show what determination and never being satisfied with the results will get you.

I still have one of the biggest things I CAN"T believe I have not fixed yet. And that is the way my intake fits my heads. The intake will not drop down enough to line up the intake's runner tops with the top portion of the heads runners. There is a lip there about 1/8"
to 1/4" :o

It was something I planned on changing early on, but time seems to have alluded me or more pressing issues have taken front stage.

I guess what I am getting at is - I'm still not satisfied.

Did you replace the half shaft that looked like a pretzel from the last time you were out with the same type again?

Great times, and as you would type RACE ON!

Hovering around 1200-1300 as stated in the first post. Better than its been, but not as good as its going to get.

Johnny H, yeah the 1/2 shaft was replaced with another stock one. Want to leave them the weak links in the setup. You know, DOD (design of destruction)

After seeing the last half shaft, the weak link made me laugh, one heck of a good idea considering seeing your video hole shots and your times are still coming down!

Awesome!

That's really cool! I would love to modify my Dad's D44 in a similar fashion but as you know there is no aftermarket support for the D44. So could you please share how you accomplished this? Thanks!
