Default 396ci Dyno Numbers Finally

Well after more than a year of breaking trannies before getting her on the dyno, I finally got a chance to do it.

Took the vette in for dyno tuning on a wideband 02.

410 rwhp @ 6500
440 rwtq @ 4800

Its still leaning out north of 6600rpm because the stock fuel pump isn't able to flow enough fuel to it. I need to go with an after market fuel pump. Likely a Walbro 255 HP. Anyone have this?

Does this sound about right for what I have?

PnP LT1 heads, intake runners, 58mm tb, Comp custom cam Int 232.8 Ex 240.4 Lobe Separation 112 Degree Intake Lobe Center To 108 Lobe Lift Int .35929 Ex .37437 Valve Lift w/1.6 Rocker Int .57487 Ex .59899, Hooker Longtubes, cat delete, 3 inch exh, magnaflow mufflers, SLP claw cai, msd, 30lb injectors.

I haven't gotten out to the track with the 3.73s yet, but the last time with a 2.59 rear end, she went 7.36@96mph in the 1/8mi on Nitto 555R DRs weighing 3500lbs with me in her.

Nice #'s! Your cam is very, very close to the cam I am running.
Gotta love that stroker torque!

Are you running a MSD box? I would be careful if you are because I think that it mixed with 6500 rpm+ runs killed my opti quickly, 5 times to be exact! I was running the blaster coil as well. Just a heads up from my experience.

Nice #'s!! Do you have to pass emissions where you live? If so, will it pass with that cam?

I have the Dyno sheets here. There's a spike in the graphs that I was hoping someone could define for me. My tuner says it spikes when the converter goes into lockup. I was just wanting a second opinion.

Can somebody host the charts for me?

I think that spike is where the converter goes into lockup - I have tiny spikes on mine at about the same RPM.

Default Thanks Timmy

When I posted the 410rwhp number, I didn't include the spike at 5900rpm. My tuner says the spike is when the converter goes into lock up. Anyone else out there have this "spike" as well? Or what else can it be?

You should get the Racetronix setup with the walbro pump and wiring. You can get this from More Performance, http://www.moreperformanceinc.com/

I am running this setup on my L98 396 without any issue.

Timmy, ah good, that makes me feel a whole lot better.

Ronred, we have almost the exact same numbers. Cool. What gears and numbers are you running at the track?

And for a better price! Awesome! Thanks for the tip Vsocks!

Check eBay too - I know that Racetronix used to sell them on there all the time.

I am running a 2800 Vigilante TC, 3.45 gears through a built A4 trans. I'm still on street tires and my best was a 12.26 @ 115 on a humid day. Haven't been to the track now that the weather is cooler. I'd be really happy for an 11.9xxx run on street tires, but these tires can't handle the torque regardless of my launch style.

96 MPH in the 1/8th will probably put you around 116mph to 117mph in the 1/4.

Those are very nice numbers.

Who built your tranny?

Tranny is being built by Dana at 700r4L60e.com. Its my understanding that some of the fastest guys on this board use his trannies.

I borrowed a friend's tranny to take advantage of a dyno tune day special.

I have the same stall in my car too. You'll go MUCH faster with some DRs. Street tires were so useless on my car, it wasn't even funny.

Jesse, Thanks for chiming in. With all of my past tranny woes, you don't know how much it relieves me to hear that tid bit of info.

I managed to get my 60s into the mid-high 1.8s on the street tires (Toyo Proxes T1-S), but want to turn an 11 second run once before forking over the money for another set of wheels with DRs. I guess mostly because if I get the DRs now, I know that 11s would be easy -- then I have to get a cage and I'm not totally convinced that I want to get that serious just yet.

Glad to hear that the DRs will make a big difference though.
