Header and spark plug question
Are the stock exhaust manifolds on an 88 L98 cast iron or steel tube? The previous owner of my car told me it had headers. When I was checking the car out sure enough they looked like headers. All of the L98's I have seen so far (since I've been paying attention)have steel tube exhaust mainifolds (headers) just like mine. Except I am missing the tin covers.
What spark plug gap should I use with the mods I have. Borla exhaust, maybe headers?,K&N filter, open air box, Hypertech chip and 160 stat, and Hypertech coil kit. Should I stay with the .035" gap or open it up to something larger?
Also I entered the car in a local show Sunday. It won 3rd place. First show for me. I was pretty pleased. (and there were more than 3 cars in my class)
With my HyperTech dist and TPIS wires I run .045" gap.
Congrats on your first show place. It's a great feeling and lots of fun. Plus it's a good excuse to get out the Zeino.
The 2 outside tubes curve down in to the collector which is just below the 2 center tubes. The 2 center's just drop right in to the collector. The o2 sensor is in the pipe below the header collector. There is a pipe from each tube on the top of the the headers that go to a fitting which then goes to a hose. Do these sound like the stock manifolds? This guy gave me all his reciepts from the work he had done. He paid the shop $685 for the headers plus installation. They are a dark almost brownish black color. Even a little rusty. Arent most aftermarket headers coated or something. Could these be aftermarket headers??? Sounds like this shop took off the tin heat shields and charged this guy good money for headers.
I am starting to burn thinking this guy got ripped like that. I bought the car, and paid a little bit more because of the mods it had
done already. I wont hesitate to call him and see if he wants to go after this shop.
Opinions please??
