Ok my 93 C4 has done this since i bought 6 years ago. Say im driving down the road and come to a bend or curve. and in the middle of that curve is a pot hole, bump, etc. and i hit it. the steering wheel jumps and shimmys really bad to the point i almost lost conrtol of the car. I 100% sure its not bad tires or allignment. I bought the car with 10,000 miles on it and im the 2nd owner, so im guessing the shockes and everything else steering related is original and has never been replaced.
Also just with the car parkes and not on i can grab the steering wheel and move it up and down about a half inch. and yes it is in the locked position. it just seems loose to me.
any help, sugestions?
thanks
Bruce

Bruce, I have an 86 z51 with 109k on the clock with everything original (except shocks) and it is rock steady. Before I changed the shocks , my car was very squirrely on rough roads. New shocks fixed that.
You have something going on that is definately not normal. I have heard others on the forum talk about a loose steering wheel that was caused by repeatedly hanging onto the wheel while getting in and out of the car to the point where the steering column gets loose. Please check all of your suspension for loose joints cause it sounds to me like something other than steering wheel is involved. Dave
