looks like its time for a new clutch. im wanting to put something a little better than factory back in as i tend to keep my foot in it more than i should. what do any of you suggest, pluse some prices if you have them. how much is a clutch from the chevy house any way. im talking parts not labor. the labors free when you do it your self. i recently put head gaskets on it and saved $1,100. the car is a `90 l98.
The stock clutch is supposed to be good for 500 hp. The big expense is the dual mass flywheel that cannot be turned. Its 800 bucks for a new one. You should not have it turned because the cutting fluid and surface particles can get into the inner workings and cause the flywheel to fly appart.
I replaced my clutch before it grooved the flywheel so I was able to reuse the flywheel. I just did a minor hand resurfacing. Its work fine for me.
You can replace the dual mass with a single mass but the transmission noise at idle is much higher. Some people don't mind it. Others do. You will need to change/modify the clutch fork to use the single mass.

is there an adjustment for the clutch pedal. see i belive i can feel some slipping on quick takoffs but what iv really noticed is that the pedal release is alot closer to the floor than it use to be. i think the flywheel is safe a this point.

The clutch is hydraulic so I don't think there is a way you can adjust it mechanically. Maybe you should check the clutch fluid or change the fluid and bleed the system and see if that makes a difference first.
If you do wind up changing the clutch, I'm using an OEM (valeo) clutch on my 90 L98. I only have about 3K miles on it so far but things are going well so far (touch wood ). My car gets more than its fair share of hard driving (two sets of rear tires to one set of fronts so far ) and I have no complaints with the clutch so far. We'll see...
I didn't have to modify the clutch fork for my single mass (f-body flywheel) conversion, but I think I've read here that you will need to modify the clutch fork if you go with a McCleod clutch setup.
