Default Time for some new binders

My 92 has terrible brakes. Far worse than my honda accord!!!

It doesn't have the heavy duty option. Just the little 12" rotors. The master cylinder is also on its way out.

So, I looked at the C5 option. Looks good till you get to the adapter plate: $240 for a piece of steel.

So, the reasonably priced options are:

1. Just put new stuff on
2. Upgrade the front breaks to 13" rotors (w/ pads and calipers too - is anything else needed??)
3. Bite the bullet and put on C5 brakes on the front only.

This car is a daily driver. I want brakes that stop well when cold. And not too much fade when hot. Any pad recommendations?

The current setup only works when the whole thing is hot. Emergency braking is currently very exciting.

Forum member Ed Salinas supplies these adapters for around $110. This link will show you what you will need:

I have the stock 12" brakes on my 92 and installed EBS Greenstuff pads. They have great initial cold bite and have not seen any fade after track days. Braking is much improved over the stock pads. There is very little brake dust compared to the stock pads.

I had tried Hawk HPS pads and they worked great but they generated a lot of dust. After one track day, the chrome AFS wheels looked like the black GS wheels The Tire Rack has some very good prices on EBC pads.

You might want to try some better pads before you shell out many hundreds of dollars. Even the 13" J55 rotors will require different caliper mounting brackets.

That's where I got the whole idea from in the first place. $110 from Ed is waaay better than the reference listed on that web page.

Is that $110 each or for the pair?

If it's possible to stop as good as a honda with drum rears with the existing stuff - I'll go for that EBS greenstuff? I'll check that out.

I think that's Ed's price for the pair. He's no sheister.

I was going to buy from Ed, but I'm mounting aftermarket brakes, and they mount up differently. Stand up guy though.

I read some of the comments on the Tirerack webpage - user comments. There was a common theme around the noisy brake issue with the EBS Greenstuff pads... Anyone have a comment?

Sticking with the stock stuff that is a bit better is far nicer to my wallet....

First thing is to fully bleed out old brake fluid and get good fresh stuff in there.
I had the C5 adapter from Ed that was a good way to go.

I just sold all that and mounted front, 4 piston, big Wilwood calipers for under $600.

don't worry about the rears, there is no inexpensive method without loosing the parking brake.

THere are a number of good pads out there beside greenstuff, the pads for the wilwood calipers run $60, the C5 pads run $160-240 for PFC AX/street pads, (ouch)

The sceaming Wilwood deal came from:

Default Brakes....

Most C-4s with stock brakes after many years really don't work well. I have a 1996 with 13" rotors. I upgraded the rotors to drilled and slotted and use AutoZone PFCs Z rated. They stop, work with heat, do not dust and have a lifetime guarantee. Give them a try.
