Default nitrous 406?'s

I am planning on building a 406 to put in my 87. I have been thinking about puting nitrous on it. My question is if I am going to run 100-150 shot of nitrous what CR should I run in order to still run pump gas?

I run 9.5-1 with alum heads and retard the timing 4 deg. with a 100 shot on 92 premium.

nomore than 9-1 with iron heads.

I was going to run a 100-150 shot with my 406 this spring (racing season here ended a month ago . It was my impression that nitrous works well with higher compression as long as the fuel is up to snuff.

That being said, my compression is 10.7:1 and I have no pinging problems with a locked out distributor with 38 degrees intial and total advance on 91 octane. Combustion chamber design and quench play an important role. My piston to head clearance is .039"

With nitrous you can run any compression you want You just need more retard.
You will need a forged crank and pistons.Ring lan moved down and above 10.8 you will need racing fuel I just retard 6 deg and run pump gas and a can of nitrous octain boost. I run 11.21 at 121.12 with an lt1 stock motor on a 150 shot 11.50 on a 125 shot.I run 10.5 to 1 pistons the worst pouder rods and pistons.

pull 4 deg for the 100 and 6 for the 150 and run 100 octane, or 110..no more no less. Be sure to retard the timing and you should be fine.

You can run a 100 shot without pulling any timing. I have run a 150 shot without pulling any timing on pump gas. With a 150 shot it probably isn't a bad idea to pull a couple of degrees, but it may not be necessary.

That's advice i just wouldn't give anyone using nitrous the first time. The MFG recommends 2 deg per 50. You can always put timing back in, but once you hurt it it's too late, besides with the difference of 4 deg. timing your not going to see or feel any difference in power.

There's alot of variables, cam shaft overlap, SCR, DCR. octane used. You do have the KR ( knock retard) on your side, but if that has to work then your actually losing more power than if you just backed the timing up and never actuated the KR program.

For ex. my cam has 48 deg of overlap..not much at all, so whatever goes into my cylinder stays there and gets compressed. The GM hot cam has 56 deg of overlap...there's a little bleed off there.
