Default 383 L98 with idle problems

Friend has a supercharged 383 L98. He is experiencing very rough idle. The idle is quite eratic and often the car will die.

He had someone tell him to try running the car with the MAF sensor unplugged. He did this and it corrected his problem. Obviously he cannot run the car like this and would like help in figuring out his problem. He has tried replacing his MAF. Did not help. He has an MSD ignition box & coil. He has tried bypassing those and it also did not help.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Scott

He has a piggy-back chip on it. He removed it and the problem stayed the same.

Invest in a custom dyno tuned chip to make it right. Since you're in OK, you could probably visit Ed Wright in person and have him make you a custom chip on his dyno. That would really improve the situation over running a SC'd 383 with stock or near-stock programming. http://www.fastchip.com/

I'm running a 383 SC package in my 86 so if you email me with the specs I'll send you a chip to get him started. Ed Wright cost me $400.00 bucks for a chip several years ago. Much to my surprise I still had idle problems among other things. I found his chip programming only increased my injector size and my coolant temps....man was I hot! Several years later and a lot of dyno work I've broke the code on SC 98's.

I'll need to know what year the vehicle is too and what what he's installed to compensate for boost timing/AFR.

Cheers,
Frank

The chip that he has in the car now WAS done by Ed Wright. This problem is present whether he has the chip in or not.

Any ideas?

The car is an '89 auto. Don't know what if anything he has done to compensate for boost timing.

LPE has recommended www.fasterproms.com as their chip burner. It is about $350 for the first burn and $150 for future upgrades. Each burn consists of burning it till you are satisfied. They send you a "rough burn" which is close. They can loan you their cable and software and you take feedback (road is your dyno) and you email it to them. They send you another chip which is closer and another till it is nuts on. I have no stake in their company but I have used their stuff successfully and I am happy with my money spent there. They are a custom burner that does not have to have your car on their dyno since you are on the road when you do WOT runs, idle, cruisng, etc
