I'm sure that this subject has been beat to death here on the forum, but I can't find anything on this with the search function, and this is not My normal lurking section, so let me ask again.
Has anyone swaped in a LS1/2/5/6 eng into a c4 and if so what problems am I going to need to overcome.
my car is a '91 L98 ZF6 D44 that is low miles, well loved, and will be with me for life.

You don't need a LS motor in your C4 to beat C5/6.
The LSx motors cannot be fitted to a ZF6, as of this time.
gee... you want 400+ hp, it ain't hard... Super Ram, cam, heads, 1.6:1 (or 1.7:1) roller rockers, long tube headers, stroke it to a 383. Yea, baby, you will be tuned right in.
A motor like that will cost about $6000.00. Plus or minus a few hundred. Much cheaper than any LS1 fitment. Those installs ain't cheap - They start at $10k. And if you use an LS1, it's only got 350 hp. Not a good move, in my opinion.
Oh, and whatever you do will move you to mod, not stock.
I would also consider coil overs, if the rules permit, but that's just me.
Here is what I came up with
383
Scat 3.75 forged crank, Scat 6.0 H-beam rods, SRP pistons, CC 306 cam, AFR 195 More performance ported heads and some Comp pro mag 7/16 1.6 R/Rs for good measure.

why not ? is it a bellhousing issue or flywheel

I dont want to finish with 400+ hp I want to start there

why so much? I'm thinking boneyard motor with electronics for about $4,000

no kidding? a 600hp c4 in A stock, who could possibly have a problem with that?

My 93 has a 388 ci solid roller Lt4 headed motor. with 494 rwhp and a 7700 rpm redline ive already put a supercharged z06 AND a 422 ci LS6 to shame. both from a roll. remember motors are just air pumps. when modified, theyre really all the same thing ( basically im saying it all depends how much $$ you want to spend and what you want, anything is possible whether it be a ls1/or an lt1 ).
I think most people disagree with the ls1 choice because they dont know much about it.
A friend of mine who isnt to welcome on this board anymore has on in his C4. He did the entire swap with shelf non-custom parts and everything bolts right in, no modifying really.
A 98-02 Camaro/Firebird LS1 /w 4L60E, (available starting around $2500), painless wiring harness, motor mount adapters $80, and some mac f-body headers and bolt the thing in yourcar...
or just bolt up a th350/400 to it.... you can use a T56 as well, but that would take more work to put in.
