Default 84 radiator question

does anyone know 1) what the dimensions are of the 84 HD radiator compared to the standard.... and 2) why was there no HD radiator from 85-89?

1) is the important question, im just curious about #2. I have an FE1 1984 383, and the std radiator isnt cuttin it, overheats in about a minute idling.

ok now im even more confused. I went into ac delcos online catalog and looked up radiators. they have 2 84 radiators like i expected. what i cant figure is, the without hd cooling radiator says 23.5 x15 x 1.375 with 3 rows and brass tanks. The "HD" radiator doesnt say anything about 3 rows, and it has plastic tanks, with the same dimensions.

My GM, Corvette Parts Book, shows a HD radiator on all years 1984-1989. In 1985 they show 2 different HD radiators. The standard and one of the HDs is the same as the 1984 HD. 1986 to 1989 the part numbers are different. As a practical matter, all the 1989 and earlier C4 rads with the cap on the right side tank, consolidate into ONE replacement part number, for most of the industry. It is a one row aluminum core with plastic side tanks.

That has to be a misprint. There [I]ARE replacement radiators made from copper/brass, but there is no way you are going to get three rows of any material in a 1 3/8ths" wide core. The 1 1/4" to 1 3/8ths" one row, aluminum core, radiators cool better that a two or three row copper/brass radiator.

FE1 isn't a factor. My parts book says that "FE1" is a "soft ride suspension, 1987-1992". A good quality OE, one row, aluminum core radiator, in good condition, should cool your engine just fine. Even if it isn't enough, it should NOT, "overheats in about a minute idling". You have something else wrong, somewhere.

I'm pretty sure my '85 has a "HD radiator".... that is unless my RPO codes are lying to me...
