Default Replacing the shift ****... HELP!

Ok, I have an '88 Vette with the manual 4+3 transmission, but it's shift **** is damaged, so I have purchased a new one to replace it.

The seller refer to the car documentation to install the **** properly, but my Vette is a 2nd hand and I have not any manual! So, please, I need from you some help and assistance.

First, if it is possible, could someone indicate me how to get this original car manual on internet or elsewhere? Could someone scan me the pages regarding this **** replacement? And, at least, could someone explain me how to change the **** with detail? I do not want to break it!

Many thanks for your assistance, I will post some photos soon! Your help is very much appreciated, very, very much

link to helm manual

if that doesn't work go to www.helminc.com and follow the links for "Aftermarket Click here: For repair information and owners manuals"...

I'd also recomend the haynes manual (found at most auto supply stores), it's like a cliff's note of the shop manual.

I don't have the 88 shop manual, nor have I ever worked on my shift ****, so I can't help you there...

if the 88 **** is anything like the 89 ****, use a small screw driver to remove the shift pattern and underneath you will see a wedge. That wedge must be removed.

then you can unscrew the ****.

You do have to be careful of the overdrive switch. I am checking my 1987 helms right now, it should be simular.

Default Shift pattern?

Thank you for your assistance my friend. When you say "shift pattern", you mean the overdrive button on top of the ****? Can I remove it simply by pulling up with a screw driver? I am affraid to break some part!

yes, but GENTLY. If it does not want to go, just be patient. It isn't worth breaking it.

Please look at my last post... are you sure? On a '88 with 4+3? Must I simply pull up the overdrive button?

Thanks!
